Avanti Law Group, PLLC is a small diverse law firm that is only growing. There are currently three senior attorneys and three associate attorneys. Avanti Law Group, PLLC practice areas include: Immigration Law, Criminal Defense, Family Law, Estate Planning, Labor and Employment Law, Civil Litigation, Class Action Litigation, and Personal Injury and Wrongful Death. The firm generally works with the lower income Hispanic community in western Michigan.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I was in charge of editing and prepping to mail application proving extreme hardship on family members of those at risk of deportation. Extreme hardship factors can include medical issues, financial issues, and the threat of violence within the region of the country the person originated from.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I was able to vastly improve my writing skills in both English and Spanish. I was also able to work on my professionalism and gained insight on what it is like to balance cases and run a firm.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the internship was the gratification I felt when a waiver was accepted by US Immigration and keeping a family together. Nothing can trump that feeling of being able to take my abilities and help others in a positive manner.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has made me very certain that I want to pursue a law degree and become a practicing attorney. I want to help those who don't know how to help themselves.
