Description of the Organization

First Tee is a non-profit organization that uses golf as a gateway for young people to teach them life skills and healthy habits. Throughout the country there are many different chapters that all use the same Nine Core Values, and Nine Healthy Habits to teach to their students. First Tee of West Michigan really prides itself on reaching underserved students and students who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to learn golf but also the life skill that come along with the game.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

During my internship I was given many different tasks to complete. Excel spreadsheets and transferring numbers over, addressing/ mailing letters, cold calls, emailing school districts, set up/take down/running golf sessions, organizing equipment donations, creating social media content, brainstorming creative ideas, and creating First Tee flyers. I also was working hands on with the students delivering the Life Skills Experience.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

Wording emails properly to our different contacts/clients that we spoke with frequently. Gained more interpersonal skills with interacting with many different positions and groups of people at this job. Experience with Excel and Canva.

Favorite Part of the Experience

I really liked how each week we tackled a new task or project, and how much I learned from being surrounded by great group of people at work. I also really liked the aspect of giving back and being a Lead Coach each week.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

Made me realize that I enjoy working with kids, and seeing their improvements in the sport. Potentially want to continue this as a career and become a golf coach in the future.
