Experience Information
Employer: Scherdel Medtec North America
Job Title: Engineering Intern
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Received Credit: Yes
Paid: Yes
Abroad: No
Description of the Organization
Scherdel is a worldwide company that consists of around 6,000 employees. The location I was at is small and has a family-like feel.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
This rotation I spent each 5 of the 15 weeks in different departments. First, I was in project management where I learned how to effectively communicate with customers and about different processes. The second rotation I was in was process engineering where I got to see more of the electrical side of things. Finally, I got to spend time in tool design learning about different tools in some of our machines and how the program the team used works.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I learned a lot more about electrical aspects of engineering and even got to help install and program a data logger into one of our companies' machines.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I really enjoyed that I got to work with three completely different departments within Scherdel.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
Over the course of my three co-op rotations, I have learned more about what I enjoy doing in the workplace and the things I would rather stay away from. I am very grateful for this as I know some students are stuck in the same position for the entire working semester.
