Planned Parenthood Advocates and Affiliates of Michigan works towards protecting the reproductive services offered by Planned Parenthood clinics throughout Michigan.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I worked on a variety of tasks including: creating a statewide Equal Pay Day toolkit so individuals could easily write letters to their legislators urging them to support pay equity legislation, gathering information about various representatives to be used by future volunteers, I began forming a comprehensive sex ed curriculum, and I attended various events.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I learned how to create a toolkit, organize volunteers, speak and present my work at different events, research information in a productive manner, and write a curriculum.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I grew as a person, I became more confident in my abilities, and I figured out that I want to work in a nonprofit in the future. The best part of my experience though probably has to be the amazing people I have me, including my supervisor Dani. The various people I have met have incredible feminist minds and beautiful souls, true gemstones.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I most definitely want to work in a nonprofit in my future now. Before I wasn't sure if I wanted to pursue the more activist side of politics or the policymaking side. Now, I know that I wouldn't be happy if I am not advocating for rights outside of the Capitol building.
