Job Title: Day to day operations of a high school athletic director
Major: Sport Management

Description of the Organization

The organization that I worked for was Allendale High School. It has roughly 750 students in grades 8-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 22 to 1. They offer all of the basic sports that most school in the state of Michigan offer.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I worked day to day operations as well as some of the evening event. One specific project that I worked on was the 50th anniversary celebration. I had to go back through 50 years of yearbooks and type up a roster for boys cross country, football, and sideline cheer. This roster was then presented to each fan at the gate of the football game.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I gained the knowledge of knowing what to do in an outdoor even if you have to deal with specific weather. I also learned how to handle fan altercations at a sporting even. Another thing that I learned was the ability to budget.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part about this internship was the learning opportunity it provided me. I was given a lot of freedoms and privileges to learn what goes into being an athletic director. The relationships that I was able to form with the coaches at Allendale, as well as the athletic director, will benefit me as I enter my career in sports leadership.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This experience has helped make me want to achieve my future goals, even more. My future goal has always been to be an athletic director at a high school level and with this experience I was able to get a first hand experience of what being an athletic director felt like. I have fallen in love with this job and will strive to achieve my future goal of becoming an athletic director.
