Received Credit: Yes

Description of the Organization

Grand Valley State University is an academic institution whose mission is "to prepare students to assume engineering positions in industry with the potential to advance to leadership positions". Relatively young yet already seen as a leading institution in the Midwest, I personally believe the best of GVSU is ahead.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I was assigned a couple of tasks as the semester went on. The main task was to design and manufacture (using in-house machines) a structural extension to an automated arm in order to fit the constraints of the environment it is operated in: a wet bench used in the College of Engineering's cleanroom.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

Although I am majoring in electrical engineering, this assigned work gave me the opportunity to brush up and enhance my CAD design and machining skills.

Favorite Part of the Experience

I enjoyed designing and manufacturing a product that satisfies specific requirements.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This experience gave me the opportunity to work towards becoming a more well-rounded engineer, which is ultimately my goal.
