Description of the Organization
Magna Mirrors is a division of Magna that specializes in specifically car mirrors. This division has multiple locations on the west side of Michigan. Even locations out of state as well. With in each location there are multiple groups that have a specific task to the design, function, and quality of the mirrors.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
As I worked for Magna mirrors the tasks, I was given had such variety throughout the semester. Some of these tasks include various methods of testing using the Instron to measure force or tension. Measuring the vibrational frequency of how the mirrors behave on the road in certain conditions. As well as even being given a specific project to create a fixture attachment to verify how many cycles some mirrors have completed in a chamber.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
The specific knowledge gained through this co-op is vast. But the main thing that this co-op has taught me is that communication is key. Because there are so many variables when creating, designing, and testing mirrors this requires a lot of collaboration between different groups within Magna mirrors. To ensure efficiency and success, it is important to communicate and collaborate as a team. Otherwise, things could go wrong.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this experience was to be given the responsibility of my own project requested by a customer. The project was a fixture attachment design to verify that mirrors were cycling properly and efficiently while in the chambers. It let me feel the pressure and forced me to use my problem-solving skills and time management to ensure everything went as smooth as possible.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has influenced my future goals only by securing my goal of becoming a high up engineer. It has even put the idea in my head of starting my own company now that I am starting the understand the system of what needs to happen for a company of engineers to be successful.
