Description of the Organization

The GVSU Veterans History Project is part of a national project, in conjunction with the US Library of Congress, dedicated to collecting and preserving the stories, experiences, and artifacts of American war veterans from World War II and beyond.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I worked with the team that was responsible for promoting the film, "A Team of Their Own," a documentary about the history and women of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. My responsibilities included scheduling dates, times, and locations for the film's premiere in Rockford and Peoria, Illinois, homes of the Rockford Peaches and Peoria Redwings teams.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

Through this internship, I learned how to practically apply the AIDA principles learned in CAP 310 to communicate effectively with potential clients.

Favorite Part of the Experience

I enjoyed our team meetings with film director/producer Professor Frank Boring. He gave me practical advice that I could execute in my job. He took the time to explain not just what to do, but the reasoning behind doing it, while also providing positive feedback.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

My major emphasis is advertising. Having the opportunity to work in public relations gave me insights into that side of the advertising and public relations field. While I enjoyed this experience, it has not altered my goal of working in advertising.
