Description of the Organization

Zondervan is a Christian based publishing company. They publish adult, young adult, and children books. Their are also departments for Spanish and video to help expand the number of people they reach with their products.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

I completed a multiple number of projects. The basics include proofreading books in the process of being published, editing manuscripts that come in, filling out proposal documents for possible projects in the future, and researching authors and illustrators.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

My skill as an editor improved exponentially since working at Zondervan. I am also much more aware of my writing skills and keeping in mind who the audience is. I can also fill out important forms that are a common part of the publishing process. I'm much more aware of the illustrations that go into a children's book, and have developed a skill for noticing what styles work for which authors.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part was getting the experience I've gained based on children's writing. There is so much more work that goes into these books than you would think. There was never a dull moment working at Zondervan, making the experience as a whole my favorite.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

I was never really in the mind set of children's books before this internship, but after only a few weeks I came to the realization that this was what I wanted to do with my life. If I can find an editing career, preferably in children's writing, than I would achieve my ultimate career goal.
