Description of the Organization
The YMCA is a cause driven organization for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This particular YMCA works hard at bringing the cities of Saint Joseph and Benton Harbor together who are very diverse from one another. They are very involved in youth athletics and getting kids involved in sports and building relationships.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I Worked in the areas of administration, maintenance, personal training, youth sports, day camp, and worked closely with youth director and sports director. Some of my responsibilities included working on marketing for personal trainers, revising their EAP, working with maintenance to design better cleaning practices, help supervise weight/cardio rooms, and worked at summer day camp as a counselor.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Through this experience I was able to gain knowledge and experience in being a leader of a group of people. I was also able to work with a variety of people with many different skills. I was also able to improve my communication skills working with multiple age groups, and communicating with parents, and members of the YMCA.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of my internship was working with summer day camp. I really enjoyed working with kids and making sure they were having a good time at day camp.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience showed me how much I enjoyed working with kids and the impact you can have on kids. This experience helped me grow as an individual, and further helped me gain experience in my ultimate goal of being an athletic director.
