JR Automation Technologies, LLC staffs ingenious, qualified professionals who design and build solutions for efficiency and speed, customized for specific needs. Whether that means machines or process development, they are rapidly expanding to serve a variety of industries and provide smart, lean solution to a challenging project.

Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

This semester has been a learning experience. I have been given tasks ranging from PLC programming, to electrical design. I worked on several assembly lines this semester for several customers. During these I was in charge of the electrical design, HMI design, PLC programming, electrical component ordering, and customer relations. I spent a great deal of time programming the logic and HMI of these door assembly stations. Throughout this time I also had to debug several aspect of the machine ranging from electrical issues to mechanical design concerns. I was able to do some vision testing for the machines as well. I worked a great deal with the customer during the build process of their machinery.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

I was able to gain a better understanding of PLC programming, HMI design, electrical debug, customer relations, vision testing, and numerous other things. The main thing that I was able to ascertain from this co-op experience was an understanding of how JR Automation does business and what it takes to be a controls engineer.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part of this experience was most definitely the people followed by the vast array of machinery. At JR Automation you are able to see a vast majority of some of the coolest machines and assemblies around. They can range from robotic arms, to heastakes, to robotic quick draw six-shooters. The people were all more than helpful and down to earth. You are always around people that are ready to help and love to find innovative solutions to the next challenge that arises.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

This experience has made me think of going into the controls engineering field for a while following school. It has shown me that this could be an interesting career choice and something I could do for a lengthy period of time.
