Description of the Organization
Active Inspection is a small software engineering company that designs custom machine vision solutions for manufacturers looking to inspect their products for defects.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I worked on writing unit test, feature testing, debugging, small feature updates for our Analytics software, and database scripts. I wrote guides for setting up third part vision systems with our software and troubleshooting guides for when communication errors occur. I also worked with a customer to install and periodically update our software.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I learned C#, batch, and SQL. I gained customer interaction experience, and I learned about basic marketing. I learned how to write clean and easy to read code that doesn't require comments to be quickly understood.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I enjoyed working with customers, and I also enjoyed working with my supervisor to write code for our Analytics program.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
My first semester of my co op has given me an idea of what I could do with a computer engineering B.S.E. degree from Grand Valley. I came into this summer hoping to enter the vision industry, and now I have a clear idea of what that would mean for me.
