Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed

While at Paws, I worked directly with the development team on monthly newsletters and e-newsletters, website material, all social media platforms, and, of course, puppy play time! Alone, I created a campaign for Instagram which is now being used, and I also had the opportunity to do a photo shoot for the current billboard campaign in West Michigan.

Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience

Paws With A Cause was my first "real" experience in my advertising field. I had no idea what I was going in to. I learned how to write in a different voice for newsletters, and I learned how to work in a team setting. Before, I was all about working alone in an office. Now, I understand that everyone has a very important part, and everyone can attribute something to the discussion. My biggest piece of advice would be, don't be afraid to ask for help or opinions. Critique's are such an important part in the creative process on every level. Teams work better, it's a fact.

Favorite Part of the Experience

My favorite part of this experience was the amount of changed lives Paws has created. It was so incredible seeing the process of a puppy going through training to becoming a service dog. I had the pleasure of meeting about 7 current clients of Paws, and the look on their faces when they met their new partner is indescribable. It's so amazing to me the impact a dog can have on someone's entire life. Originally, I went to Paws so that I could play with dogs, but it turned into so much more than that. I created a new love for helping people and changing lives. The fact that I can say I was a part of this company is such an accomplishment to me.

How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals

Before Paws, I had no idea where I wanted to be. Now I know I would like to end up in a non-profit somewhere. Whether it be Paws With A Cause or the American Cancer society, I want to work with a company that doesn't run for the money, they run for the people. Thanks to Paws, I actually landed my 'Big Girl' job a semester before I graduate. It's crazy how life works sometimes; everything happens for a reason.
