Description of the Organization
Viant Medical is the leading private medical device design and manufacturing contractor. The Grand Rapids location has roughly 75 employees.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
During my time as a co-op student at Viant Medical, I have helped with many different projects and tasks. I was on the new product launch so I was also able to train operators for product launch. I helped build devices, work on documentation, and build necessary fixtures needed for my line.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I learned how much time goes into the manufacturing process to launch a new product (it is not a small period of time). I gained skills in technical writing for reports, testing devices, proper cleanroom procedures, and other beneficial skills for the engineering world.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part about this internship was the ability to work along side with other engineers and be able to work on the projects that they would work on. I was never looked down upon and my ideas were welcomed.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
I have always been interested in the medical side of engineering and this rotation has showed me how much I enjoy this path.
