Description of the Organization
Berlin Raceway is a premier short track in the country located in Marne, Michigan. They host some of the biggest races for the divisions that they provide, with a few nationally televised events for the year with the ARCA Menards NASCAR series and SRX. Berlin is a fairly small organization with only a handful of full-time employees with a few interns. There is a good amount of part-time people around the organization though. They are mostly Race day personnel like race officials, concessions workers, and security.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
Narrowing down what I did during my internship would be quite difficult as I was all over the place at Berlin. From being in the front office working promotions for the season to managing the facility keeping it organized and clean to picking up tires in Indiana. I was all over the place and gained a lot of experience in different areas of the organization.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
A skill I acquired and developed during my time at Berlin was adaptability. With so many different things needing to get done at the track and with being an extra pair of hands, I needed to be able to be pulled in any direction. I had to be able to adapt to that job and perform it well.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the internship was probably the prep work we did for our first practices of the year and the first race. Just getting everything lined up and set up for the events was something I enjoyed and am looking forward to doing this race season.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has influenced my future career goals towards being more involved in the racing community and having NASCAR or racing in general as a possible option for a career path. Before this internship, I don't know if I would've ever thought of working in that space.
