Engage in Research
Active, ongoing research is required of all tenure-track faculty at GVSU. The exercise science program has a wide range of faculty research interests and several projects currently underway. Click below to learn more about the research interests of the EXS faculty:
Research can be completed for EXS 490 Internship credit, independent study credit, or as a special project. Before engaging in research with a faculty member, students must complete free online research training (CITI Program) required for any project involving human subjects.
EXS Independent Study
Students may register for an independent reading or study/research course (EXS 399 or 499), worth 1-3 credits depending on scope. Independent studies are reserved for advanced work, available only after completing relevant prior coursework in the area of study, at the sponsoring faculty member's discretion.
Before registering, students must work with a faculty sponsor to:
- Identify the topic
- Select reading assignments (books, journal articles, or scholarly materials)
- Determine the type of work to be produced
- Align expectations and outcomes for the experience
