February 2026 Board of Trustees Update

On February 6, 2026, the GVSU Board of Trustees acted on several items related to GVSU-authorized charter public schools.
First, the Board approved the reauthorization of the following seven schools with the recommended lengths of their new charter contracts:
- Detroit Enterprise Academy (5 years)
- Flint Cultural Center Academy (7 years)
- Grand River Academy (5 years)
- Lincoln-King Adams-Young Academy (3 years)
- Michigan Math and Science Academy (5 years)
- New Paradigm College Prep (7 years)
- Westfield Charter Academy (5 years)
Next, the Board approved the authorization of Grand Rapids Child Discovery Center, a charter school currently in operation and authorized by Grand Rapids Public Schools. GVSU's authorization of GRCDC will start on July 1, 2026.
The Board also approved the appointments or reappointments of 13 charter school board members. The GVSU Charter Schools Office is excited to welcome the following nine individuals as new board members for GVSU-authorized charter schools:

- Tiffany Falcon-Ewigleben -- Grand Rapids Child Discovery Center
- Travis LaFleur -- Grand Rapids Child Discovery Center
- Samantha Taylor -- Grand Rapids Child Discovery Center
- Jennifer McGraw -- Grand Rapids Child Discovery Center
- Justine Burdette -- Grand Rapids Child Discovery Center
- Erin Dominianni -- Kalamazoo Prep Academy
- Sommar Hurt -- Knapp Charter Academy
- Daralynn Walker -- Westfield Charter Academy
