For Student Researchers and Faculty Mentors

Visit the Center for Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement (CUSE) for networking, resources, and funding opportunities. The CUSE serves students interested in pursuing academic and creative experiences and projects outside the classroom. CUSE houses the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (OURS) and the Frederik Meijer Office of Fellowships. Together we have a mission to provide students with the opportunity to conduct research, apply for competitive inter/national fellowship/scholarships, and encourage and support faculty engagement with undergraduate students in their research, scholarship, and creative work.

Supports dissemination of the applicant's original research or creative effort at a recognized, organized conference or professional exposition, or if you are a session chair or officer of a national committee.  All tenured and tenure-track faculty members, visiting professors, and affiliates are eligible. This program supports research and creative activity with a modest subsidy at critical times. This is accomplished through defraying the cost of travel, supplies, and other materials necessary to conduct the project. Click here to learn more about this grant and apply for funding. 

Encourages faculty in establishing and maintaining programs of research, scholarly or creative activity. Tenured or tenure-track faculty member on continuing appointment. Only one proposal per review cycle. Click here to learn more about this grant and the opportunities it can provide..

Provides unencumbered time to help fulfill the demand of unusually time-intensive projects. Preference given to faculty nearing a review for promotion or promotion and tenure; to complete a major project essential for strengthening an upcoming promotion; to complete a major project. Appointing officer approval required. 

Designed to foster new collaborative research and creative activities between faculty members from different disciplines. Tenured or tenure-track faculty members on continuing appointment. Visiting faculty, affiliate faculty, adjunct faculty and staff can be co-principal investigator (PI) but not lead PI. Only one proposal per review cycle. Click here to learn more about this grant.

This fund supports the costs of scholarly publication.These subventions guarantee that scholarly works of significance by GVSU faculty can be published even if the prospective audience is limited. 

The purpose of the LGBT FSA Grant Program is to promote LGBT related scholarship that fosters an inclusive community for LGBT faculty and staff at GVSU. That grant purpose is to provide flexibility to meet special funding needs that, without support, would prevent researchers from pursuing the project. The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) team is here to assist you in finding an external grant or other funding for your project ideas. Our external funding search resources include Pivot-RP, Grants.gov, NSF Funding, and more. A Grants and Contracts Specialist familiar with your discipline will be there from the first step, to facilitate the development of your idea. The GVSU Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) uses Cayuse424 to provide proposal development and electronic submission through Grants.gov and now Research.gov. Cayuse424 is also used for Internal Review and Approval routing of all proposal applications. PC and Mac compatible, submission to National Science Foundation through Research.gov. This form should be filled out and submitted for routing before submitting an application to any non-federal, non-state entity.  The OSP will route through Streamlyne for the listed "required signatures," A determination is made by University Development in collaboration with the Office of Sponsored Programs.


A Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) is a contract that governs the transfer of tangible research materials between two organization, when the recipient intends to use it for their own research purposes.  AT GVSU the CSCE reviews and improves all MTAs.  To expedite the process, fii out either an Inbound MTA or and Outbound MTA.

DUA Inbound. This form is required when a GVSU investigator is receiving a dataset from another organization. A Data Use Agreement (DUA) is a written contract used to govern the transfer of research data between organizations. DUAs can be set up between academic institutions, government agencies and/or corporate entities.  Establishing conditions prior to the transfer of data avoids issues and misunderstandings after research has begun. 

DUA Outbound. This form is required when a GVSU investigator is sending a data set from another organization.A Data Use Agreement (DUA) is a written contract used to govern the transfer of research data between organizations. These agreements can be set up between academic institutions, government agencies and/or corporate entities. 

An inventor's first step in the commercialization process is to submit an invention disclosure form. This is the beginning of a relationship between a researcher and the TCO. The disclosure form enables the inventor to receive assistance and support from the TCO throughout the commercialization process, if the university asserts its interest in the technology. The Service Agreement is designed to provide cost effective services for small contracts that will not, within the contractual agreement, generate intellectual property that belongs to GVSU. The data that is generated from the service agreement will belong to the contracting organization.

A Confidentiality Agreement (CDA) is a legal contract between two parties and describes information, knowledge, or materials to be share between or among parties. It restrict the usage and additional disclosure of the shared information, knowledge or materials.  A Confidentiality Agreement is commonly signed when the University is considering entering into a business relationship with a third party and where there is a need to understand or evaluate each other’s research data and/or business processes.
