Dr. Shoemaker’s clinical practice has been focused in cardiopulmonary and geriatric rehabilitation across multiple practice settings and currently practices in the cardiothoracic critical care setting at Corewell Health. His research interests, spanning over 100 peer-reviewed papers, textbook chapters, peer-reviewed platform/poster presentations, includes cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, health policy, and the use of simulation in professional and interprofessional education.
Professional Interests
Cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy is the center of Dr. Shoemaker's teaching and research interests. Service to the APTA is a focal point of Dr. Shoemaker's career having served as APTA Michigan President, Vice President, Legislative Director, Legislative Chair, and Delegate.
