Elena Lioubimtseva, Associate Professor and Director of Environmental Studies, gave a presentation, “Grain Production trends in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan in the Context of the Global Climate Variability and Change,” at the U.N. Food and Agriculture’s Organization Expert Consultations in Rome, Italy. She also gave a presentation from a co-authored article, “Possible Impacts of Climate Change and Economic Globalization on the Grain Production Trends in Russia and its Neighbors,” at the international Interdisciplinary Conference on Food Studies in Austin, Texas.

Svetoslav Pavlov, Affiliate Professor of Area Studies, participated in a poetry reading at the Kalamazoo Russian Festival held at Western Michigan University.

Jonathan White, Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies and Executive Director of Grand Valley's Homeland Defense Initiative, was interviewed by several media outlets for stories about the threat of terrorism at the Sochi Winter Olympics.

Maureen Wolverton, Affiliate Faculty of Liberal Studies, gave a presentation, “The Hero’s Journey,” at the Beyond Mythology exhibition at Ferris State University.
