Kimberly McKee, associate professor of integrative, religious and intercultural studies, received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award to teach at Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea, during the 2023-2024 academic year.

Sogang University is in the heart of Seoul; its enrollment is more than 15,000 students, many of whom are international students. McKee said she will be teaching undergraduate and graduate classes on gender and American culture.

McKee's research focuses on transnational adoption from Asia to the United States and representations of Asian Americans in popular culture. She said the Fulbright position aligns with her teaching interests and will benefit Grand Valley students when she returns.

"The year at Sogang will help me think more broadly about the topics that I teach at Grand Valley; I'll bring a transnational lens to the material," she said.

The Fulbright Program is presented by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. It is the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program and is supported by the people of the United States and partner countries around the world.
