Liberal Studies Student Receives University Award

Benjamin Scott-Brandt, Liberal Studies student in the Frederik Meijer Honors College, has received the prestigious Glenn A. Niemeyer Undergraduate Student Award. Named for the first Provost of Grand Valley State University, the Niemeyer Awards honor faculty and students who strive for excellence in all aspects of a well-rounded academic experience. Students selected for the Niemeyer Awards are well-rounded individuals with demonstrated excellence in both the classroom and extra-curricular activities.

Specializing in the study of sacred spaces, Ben's interests and talents are many. He is a singer/songwriter/producer of a dozen albums. He has composed music for a PBS series and several films; in one he also acted. He is a talented hairstylist. He has interned at GVSU Campus Interfaith Resources as well as several local spiritual retreat centers. Ben is also a first-generation college student graduating this spring. Ben has also received the Grand Rapids Area Higher Education Network's (GRAHEN) Outstanding Adult Learner Award, which recognizes students from member universities who have demonstrated leadership both in the classroom and in their community. Congratulations Ben!
