John Read, Environmental and Sustainability Studies Alum
"Shortly after graduating from GV I moved to Phoenix, AZ to take a job as a GIS technician for the forestry & resource management division of an electrical utility company... My degree, and my time at GV in general, was almost singular in setting me up for where I am now. My time working for Brooks College was my first real taste of a project-based office environment which has translated well to geospatial work. The ENS program, being interdisciplinary in nature, really gave me the freedom to supplement my core curricula with hard GIS and NR skills that expanded my horizons a lot.”

Tori Blue, Integrative Studies Alum
“The things I learned and the skills I developed while seeking my Integrative Studies degree have been instrumental in shaping the work I am doing today as a graduate student—and as a budding novelist. I know how to research, how to find answers in unexpected places, and how to knit ideas together into something cohesive.”

Shelli B., Professional Innovations Alum
“After 20 years in administrative roles, I was ready for a new challenge. So, in 2023, I decided it was time to go back to college to complete my BAS degree. I researched the southwest Michigan area for a university where I could complete my degree online while still working full-time. The biggest concern I had was being able to use the credits I already completed with my associate's degree and put them towards completing a bachelor's degree. I checked with a few different universities; however, none had a program similar to the Professional Innovations program at GVSU.”

Chad Steffes, Fred Meijer Center for Writing and Michigan Authors Alum
Reflecting on his time at the writing center Chad says "...This gave me so much experience in developing/coaching technical writing in my major, a skill that many employers search for in ideal candidates, across all disciplines. These extra opportunities through the FMCWAMA have definitely helped me in my professional career and gave me interpersonal and technical skills that I utilized both in my time in education and as a lab analyst."
Courtney Reed, Leadership and Business Fundamentals Alum
“The Leadership and Business Fundamentals program has been transformative for my career. While I’ve been an entrepreneur for many years, working on my practicum and Capstone projects helped me discover a deeper calling: community leadership and social change. These experiences allowed me to chart a new path toward a fulfilling career as a non-profit consultant, something I hadn’t considered before my time at Grand Valley State University.”
