Whether you are in the classroom, supporting students directly, or working with teams, this high-impact five-part series will help you create environments where every learner feels safe, seen, and empowered to succeed. Moving beyond traditional compliance toward a mindset of compassion, connection, and curiosity, this series provides the evidence-based tools you need to build accessible learning spaces, implement universal supports, foster positive interactions, and master effective, team-based problem solving—ensuring you feel confident and ready to meet the needs of every learner.
- Module 1: Foundations - This module strengthens the mindset shift from compliance to compassion, connection, and curiosity. Grounded in neurodiversity and a trauma-assumed approach, participants will explore foundational behavioral principles and supports that create supportive, accessible environments where every learner feels safe, seen, and ready to engage.
- Module 2: Universal Supports - Designed to move beyond specialized interventions for a few, this training equips educational teams to implement key evidence-based practices, referred to as Universal Supports, that are effective for all students, yet essential for some. Participants will learn to systematically assess their current practices and implement the universal supports that boost student independence, reduce dysregulation, and maximize meaningful engagement.
- Module 3: PTRR Strategies - This module provides a proactive framework for supportive strategies centered on the Prevent, Teach, Reinforce, Respond (PTRR) structure. Participants will learn evidence-based antecedent strategies to prevent student dysregulation and foster student independence, teach and reinforce skills, and shift from exclusionary practices to compassionate, instructional responses.
- Module 4: Behavior Escalation & Scripts - This session explores the cycle of behavioral escalation, common student behaviors during escalation, and effective adult responses at each stage. Designed for educators and support staff, this training is co-sponsored by START and the MiMTSS Technical Assistance Center.
- Module 5: Meeting Mechanics and Implementation: Team-based Problem Solving - When faced with an issue or problem to solve, teams need to identify key factors and develop solutions that lead to clear action. This process can become challenging when issues are complex or emotionally charged, often slowly progress or bringing it to a halt. This session will focus on the efficient and effective six-step, problem solving process of Meeting Mechanics. Through real-world scenarios, participants will practice the Meeting Mechanics process and leave with practical, ready-to-use tools.
Individual viewing: For this training, individual viewing is recommended for a single individual attending the training, or for each member of a group of 7 people or less.
Team Viewing Option: For this training, team viewing is recommended for a group size of 8 or more participants, who will be facilitated by at least 1 team leader (preferably a coach within your local ISD).
Team Viewing Instructions:
- Identify and register 1 to 2 Team Leaders (preferably a coach within your district/ISD) who will be responsible for facilitating the virtual training experience.
- Team Leaders are responsible for the following:
- Organizing and coordinating the training in a physical viewing location.
- Communicating with START about the training and questions that arise.
- Collecting team attendance and reporting this attendance to START.
- Facilitating the team experience.
- Team Leaders are responsible for the following:
- After registering, START will send the Team Leaders a Facilitator Guide with information about facilitating a high-quality virtual training experience in a large group.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs): START is offering State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs), Social Work Credits, pending approval, and Certificates of Attendance. Participants must complete the Attendance Form provided at the training within 2 days of the training date to receive CEUs and/or a Certificate of Attendance.
Cancellation Policy: Cancellations must be emailed to [email protected] at least 24 hours before training begins for a full refund for Modules 1 and 2 and for a partial refunds for Model 3. No refunds will be given for Modules 4 or 5. We are unable to accept phone cancellations.
