What would you say are the benefits to being part of the Cook Leadership Academy?

You are given the opportunity to recieve guidance and professional advice from community leaders and collaborate with a diverse cohort of like-minded students in a team-based learning environment. Cook Leadership Academy students also get exposure to networking events and mixers, allowing valuable connections for internships, references, and long-term career development. This program has given me the strength and confidence to use my leadership skills in both team and professional settings!

Would you recommend GVSU student-athletes apply for the Cook Leadership Academy?

I would urge every GVSU student-athlete to develop meaningful relationships with professors and other administrators, opening the door for a nomination to apply for the program. As athletics, discipline, time management, and determination are an integral part of our everyday lives. The Cook Leadership Academy helps refine these natural strengths into broader leadership skills that extend beyond sports, and into the professional world. CLA helps student-athletes grow as well-rounded leaders who not only compete with passion but also serve a purpose.

What is next for Gabby?

I am a senior at Grand Valley State University and a member of the Women’s Lacrosse team, pursuing a double major, with a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in English. I currently intern at Wheeler Upham, Attorneys and Counselors, and volunteer at the Kent County Legal Assistance Center! I am also in the process of applying to law school to continue building on these experiences and pursue a career in law!
