Print and Drawing Cabinet: Cyril Lixenberg
The first donation to the Print and Drawing Cabinet was made in 2001 by the English-born, Dutch artist Cyril Lixenberg. The collection consists of more than 300 of his own silk screen prints, most of them large, colorful abstract designs. The gift includes every print produced in the course of his notable 40-year career and is continually augmented by the artist.
The internationally acclaimed artist recently donated his personal art collection to Grand Valley in memory of his wife, Saskia. With this donation, Lixenberg wanted to see his work together in one place, accessible to students and the general public, and exhibited in Michigan, Lixenberg's self-described 'second home.' The GVSU Art Museum Collection also includes paintings and works on paper, including drawings, mono-prints, print editions, small sculptures, and archival material spanning Lixenberg's early career as a struggling and evolving artist from the mid-1950s to the present.
