Please join us for a special Friends of Alten & Friends of Art joint member event on Thursday, October 8, 2026, as we explore the musical world of artist Mathias Alten’s time through a special lecture and Beckering Family Carillon Tower carillon performance by Jon Lehrer, GVSU University Carillonist.

The Music of Alten’s Time

What music might Mathias Alten have heard throughout his life and career? This fall, we invite you to experience sights and sounds from the turn of the 20th century through an engaging musical event that connects art, history, and place. This event offers an opportunity to connect with fellow Friends over heavy hors d'oeuvres and drinks while viewing the George and Barbara Gordon Galleries. 

Jon Lehrer, GVSU University Carillonist, is a graduate of Yale University and the Royal Carillon School of Belgium. Lehrer is an accomplished international carillon performer dedicated to sharing the beauty and tradition of this unique musical art form.
