Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is an interdisciplinary field that examines the roles, experiences, and impacts of gender and sexuality in society.

Overview

The Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) program at Grand Valley State University explores the complexities of gender and sexuality through various perspectives. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking and social justice, preparing students to understand and challenge systems of inequality. By examining the intersections of gender, sexuality, race, class, and other identities, students gain a nuanced perspective on social dynamics and cultural norms.

You will take courses that address foundational theories and practical applications. Core courses include gender studies, feminist theory, LGBTQ+ studies, and courses on the history and politics of gender and sexuality. These classes are designed to provide a deep understanding of the key concepts and methodologies in the field, while offering opportunities for application through internships, community engagement, and research projects.

This program prepares you for careers in leadership, social services, and politics while fostering a strong commitment to community through internships and volunteering. You will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact on your community through the Gayle R. Davis Center for Women and Gender Equity, Milton E. Ford LGBT Resource Center, and Office of Multicultural Affairs. By engaging in research projects, both individually and collaboratively, you can help shape cultural and societal change.
