The B.A. and B.S. programs focus on providing a broad range of experiences rather than specializing in one area. Students take a variety of courses, including both two-dimensional and three-dimensional disciplines.
The B.F.A. prepares students for a professional career in studio art. Students must select one of the eight emphases: ceramics, graphic design, illustration, jewelry and metalsmithing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, or visual studies. Additionally, students seeking a B.F.A. degree must complete at least 81 credits across the Department of Visual and Media Arts.
The program emphasizes creativity while considering broader ethical, historical, scientific, and cultural ideas, fostering work that contributes to public dialogue. Students benefit from small classes that ensure individualized attention from professors who are practicing and awarded artists. Coursework is completed in state-of-the-art facilities, equipping students with essential skills for their chosen media. The program encourages collaboration across emphasis areas, supporting individual interests and helping students acquire the expertise necessary for participation in arts communities and self-advocacy after graduation.
