The ability to speak and read another language expands our range of cultural competency and communication, but also enriches our understanding of the world and our own culture.

Overview

Grand Valley's Japanese Language Minor program offers students the opportunity to develop proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Japanese. The program integrates cultural studies, enhancing students' understanding of Japan's rich heritage and its global significance.

The coursework includes intermediate language and culture classes, upper-level language courses, and electives such as Japanese literature, culture, theatre, and film. Students can also participate in study abroad programs to immerse themselves in the language and culture.

Studying Japanese at Grand Valley provides numerous benefits, including access to the Language Resource Center, experienced faculty, and personalized assistance. The program prepares students for diverse careers in business, education, government, international relations, and more.
