Information Systems Management

Graduate Badge

Grand Rapids • Face to face (?) • 9 Credits

Information systems management involves overseeing the technology and processes that collect, store, and distribute information within an organization to enhance efficiency and decision-making.

Overview

Grand Valley's Information Systems Management graduate badge is designed to equip students with essential skills for managing information systems within various business contexts. This program, which is not a degree or certificate, focuses on preparing students to analyze business needs, evaluate system development lifecycles, create high-level design specifications, and address ethical, cultural, and legal issues. Additionally, students will learn to apply project management guidelines and differentiate between Agile and traditional approaches to IS project management.

The coursework covers a range of essential topics, including system development methodologies and learning how to analyze and design effective information systems. They will also explore project planning and management tools, gaining skills in organizing and overseeing IS projects. Additionally, the program addresses strategic policy formulation for information systems, ensuring students understand how to align IS strategies with business goals. This comprehensive approach equips students with the knowledge and practical experience needed to tackle real-world challenges in the field.

Digital badges can be displayed on social media, websites, and emails, making them a valuable tool for showcasing marketable skills to potential employers. Pursuing this badge at GVSU provides an opportunity to highlight particularly desirable skills, making graduates more competitive in today's job market.

A digital badge, or badge, is a record of achievement that recognizes a student's completion of a coherent and meaningful academic experience. GVSU offers both credit and non-credit bearing badges as digital credentials. Credit-bearing badges include anywhere from 0.5 to 15 academic credits and may include additional noncredit criteria.
