Allied Health Sciences - Emphasis In Physical Therapy

The Allied Health Sciences (AHS) degree at Grand Valley State University offers an exciting and flexible pathway for students in Northern Michigan who want to pursue a career as a Physical Therapist.

Grand Valley State University's Doctor of Physical Therapy degree is offered through the College of Health Professions. Physical therapists are valued for their ability to independently evaluate, diagnose, treat and prevent disorders of human movement in a wide variety of clinical and community settings. Our program features 15 full-time faculty members, 12 of whom hold advanced clinical practice certifications. Our program is well situated along the Medical Mile in Grand Rapids and enjoys an outstanding reputation among its students and in the community. 

Transferring from NMC to GVSU

The B.S. in Allied Health Sciences degree is designed to give you the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to thrive in a variety of health care roles. The program provides two primary pathways:

  1. Prepare for Clinical Roles in Health Care
  2. Prepare for Graduate Programs in Health Care

If you're interested in direct patient care, the AHS degree provides a pathway to clinical settings. You'll gain foundational skills that can lead to clinical role training through internships, advanced programs, or one of GVSU's professional graduate options.

  • CHM 201 with Lab - Intro to Organic Chemistry 
  • BIO 268 - Biochemistry
  • MTH 121 - College Algebra
  • MTH 122 - Trigonometry or MTH 141
  • PHY 121 - General Physics I
  • PHY 122 - General Physics II
  • PSY 101 - Intro to Psychology
  • PSY 211 - Developmental Psychology
  • SOC 101 or ANT 113 or SOC 201
