Exercise Science Abroad

As an international member of faculty here at GVSU, and having been a faculty member at Kingston University, one of our partner institutions in England, I strongly advocate for our students to participate in study abroad. It provides them with excellent and unique educational knowledge and skills that can only be gained from studying abroad. Also, it gives students the chance to experience new cultures, beliefs, and environments that can enrich their own personal and career development. Every student I know who has participated in study abroad has come back with endless stories of new friends and exciting adventures, and partly wishes they hadn’t had to come back!

Academic Advice

  • The earliest you can go abroad is the summer of your first year.
  • Students may fulfill General Education Foundation and Issues requirements abroad
  • If you are unable to take a major sequence course abroad in fall or winter, you can catch up on the sequence by taking summer courses or pushing your internship to the summer of your fourth year (if following a 4 year track).
  • It is very possible to complete the MOV 475 fieldwork or the MOV 490 internship abroad.
  • Students should be working with their faculty mentor to plan and make appropriate course selections for study abroad.
  • Exercise Science students may NOT take the MOV 495 Capstone abroad.
  • Pre-PT, OT, and PA students are advised to NOT take their prerequisite courses abroad.

To determine the GVSU course equivalencies for courses taken abroad, please visit our Course Approval page.

Once you have selected a program, schedule a meeting with your academic advisor to discuss your plans.
