Outdoor Fields and Courts Information
- Use of all courts, as participants or spectators is "at your own risk". All facility users/ spectators should proceed with care and use courts with caution.

- Courts can be reserved to registered student organizations by contacting 331-3313 or at www.gvsu.edu/sportsfacilities
- Open Recreation for activities such as touch football, frisbee, soccer are permitted on the multi -purpose field when no other activities are scheduled if such usage does not damage the turf.
- Do not enter fenced varsity soccer field or track stadium without a confirmed reservation.
- Use of courts must be in compliance with GVSU's student code at all times. Inappropriate or unsportsmanlike behavior and language may result in immediate and/ or long term denial of access to the outdoor courts.
- No alcohol, smoking, or tobacco/ controlled substances allowed.
- No beverage other than water or food allowed on the artificial turf surface including gum, candy, and sunflower seeds.
- No spitting on the artificial turf surface.
- No pets or animals are allowed on the courts, fields or spectator areas.
- No vehicles permitted on the field. Golf carts are permitted to serve the needs on the perimeter of each field.
- Parking or unloading is not permitted on or near fields. Park and unload in paved lots only.
- Cease activity during bad weather, and/ or in conjunction with GVSU officials and staff.
- Report all damages to the Kelly Family Sports Center front desk.
- Appropriate attire is required at all times.
- Tennis shoes are required on the tennis and basketball courts.
- Plastic cleats are allowed, no metal cleats on the artificial turf surface.
- Track spikes must be pyramid spikes no longer than 1/4 inch on the track surface.
- Tennis racquets can be checked out with a GVSU ID at the Kelly Family Sports Center front desk.
- Do not adjust tennis net heights.
- Do not climb on soccer goals or netting.
- No skateboarding allowed on tennis courts.
- Hitting of golf balls is not permitted on fields.
- Rollerblading on WEST roller hockey court only.
- No hoverboarding on any of the courts or fields.
- Use of drones is not permitted on any GVSU outdoor fields or courts.
- Return all equipment to original condition/ location after each use.
- Please place all litter in a trash receptacle.
- Outside accessible restrooms are located on the south side of the Kelly Family Sports Center.
- GVSU is not responsible for lost or stolen property.
- In case of emergency call 911 or 331-3255 to contact campus police.
Home to record-breaking crowds, Lubbers Stadium set both a stadium and GLIAC single-game on-campus attendance record when 17,007 fans watched Grand Valley take on Ferris State. In 2024, new restrooms and concession facilities were added to enhance the fan experience, along with a new viewing deck designed to host events and serve concessions.
Located next to the Kelly Family Sports Center, the GVSU Baseball Field is home to the Laker Baseball Team. In 2024, the facility received a new AstroTurf surface, along with upgraded bullpen areas and a relocated hitting cage. This facility is reserved exclusively for GVSU Athletics.
Completed in 2008, the GVSU Softball Field features a natural grass outfield, mixed clay infield, dugouts, batting cages, a modern scoreboard, stadium-style seating, and a fully enclosed press box. Located directly behind the Kelly Family Sports Center, this facility is reserved exclusively for GVSU Athletics.
Opened in 2012, the South Complex serves as a premier facility for the Laker Track & Field and Women’s Lacrosse teams. It features a nine-lane, 400-meter track with dedicated areas for field events such as pole vault and throws. Inside the track is a full-sized, lined lacrosse field that hosts the Lakers’ home competitions in the spring.
The outdoor track is typically open for drop-in use on most weekdays during the spring, summer, and fall. Please note that scheduled events or inclement weather may occasionally limit access.
Located adjacent to the Kelly Family Sports Center, Grand Valley State University offers eight outdoor tennis courts. The courts are open to the public when not in use by the GVSU Laker Tennis Team or other scheduled activities.
Home to the GVSU Women’s Soccer program, this facility is located off West Campus Drive, across from the Meadows Golf Course. In 2025, the playing surface was upgraded from natural grass to AstroTurf artificial turf. Adjacent to the field are newly renovated locker rooms, along with a weight room and athletic training facilities that support the team’s year-round training and competition needs.
GVSU features three full-size outdoor basketball courts, located north of the Kelly Family Sports Center and west of the Fieldhouse. The courts include overhead lighting, with on/off times that vary by season. Outdoor basketball courts are open for drop-in play when the weather permits.
GVSU offers three sand volleyball courts for Grand Valley students, located north of the Kelly Family Sports Center and west of the Fieldhouse. The courts feature overhead lighting, with seasonal on/off times. Sand volleyball is closed in late fall for the winter semester and reopens in late spring. Courts are available for drop-in play when the weather permits.
Constructed in 2010, the East Turf Field hosts Intramurals and Club Sports, including rugby, lacrosse, and soccer. The West Turf Fields, built in 2011 and located west of the Outdoor Track/Lacrosse Stadium, span 252,000 sq. ft. and accommodate soccer, lacrosse, flag football, and two artificial turf softball fields with lighting for evening activities. These turf fields are open for drop-in use whenever Intramurals or Club Sports are not scheduled.
South Complex Hours
