Epigeum Training

 

WHICH EPIGEUM COURSE(S) SHOULD I TAKE?

  • Responsible Conduct of Research (US) (Full RCR Course) (300 min)
    • This course is required for the following individuals, prior to commencing research:
      • Certain graduate students, depending upon program (see link above).
      • Undergraduate students who have internal funding (e.g. McNair Scholars, S3-Student Summer Scholars, MS3-Modified Student Summer Scholars, and students paid on GVSU R&D grants)
      • Undergraduate students working on a sponsored research project
    • This course is encouraged for the following individuals, prior to commencing research:
      • Undergraduate students working on a non-sponsored research project
      • New faculty members
      • Experienced faculty members who have not previously taken the full RCR course
    • Five different discipline-specific modules are available to choose from in the Full RCR course listing: Arts & Humanities, Biomedical Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Natural & Physical Sciences, and Social & Behavioral Sciences. Only one needs to be completed. Students: If you are unsure which module is most applicable to your research, please check with your Faculty Advisor before beginning the training.
    • This course also fulfills the RCR requirement for faculty working on sponsored projects funded by institutions that require certification in RCR training (NSF, NIH, etc.)
    • This course also fulfills the Human Research Review Committee (HRRC) requirement for RCR training.

 

  • Responsible Conduct of Research: Concise (US) (45 min Core Course, with additional 15 min optional modules)
    • This course (including additional applicable modules) is required for the following individuals:
      • Certain graduate students, depending upon program (see link above).
      • All researchers named on a GVSU Human Research Review Committee (HRRC) protocol submitted after 6/30/17.
    • This course (including additional applicable modules) is encouraged for the following individuals as an annual refresher:
      • Experienced research faculty, staff, and students who have previously taken a full RCR training course

 

  • Human Subjects Protections (15 min) (This module is found within the RCR Concise Course. It is called "Human subjects protection (optional course) (15 mins)" in Epigeum.)
    • This course is required for the following individuals:
      • All individuals named on a GVSU Human Research Review Committee (HRRC) protocol submitted after 6/30/17, who have previously been named on an approved GVSU human subjects protocol.

 

  • Human Subjects Protections (150 min)
    • This course is required for the following individuals:
      • All individuals named on a GVSU Human Research Review Committee (HRRC) protocol submitted after 6/30/17, who have not previously been named on an approved GVSU human subjects protocol.
    • This course also fulfills the Human Research Review Committee (HRRC) requirement for Human Subjects Protection (HSP) training for individuals named on a GVSU HRRC protocol submitted after 6/30/17, who have previously been named on an approved GVSU human subjects protocol.
