GVSU RMSC Summer Camps Wrap Up with Real-World STEM Exploration
This season, Grand Valley State University’s Regional Math and
Science Center (RMSC) wrapped up two dynamic summer
camps—Forage 2 Farm and Advanced
Manufacturing—each offering middle school students hands-on
experiences that brought STEM learning to life.
At Forage 2 Farm, held on the Allendale campus, students explored sustainable agriculture, foraging, and food systems through nature walks, farm visits, and interactive lessons. They learned how science intersects with the environment and everyday food production while engaging with experts in the field.
Meanwhile, the Advanced Manufacturing Camp took place at GVSU Seidman College of Business in Grand Rapids. Campers gained firsthand experience with 3D printing, CAD, automation, and Lean manufacturing. They also participated in career panels, toured local industries, and tackled design challenges that mirror real-world manufacturing scenarios.
Together, these camps offered unique, place-based STEM experiences that helped students connect science, technology, and sustainability in meaningful ways. As the summer comes to a close, participants leave inspired, empowered, and equipped with new skills to explore future career pathways.
