Why doesn’t GVSU issue bespoke Certificates of Insurance (COIs)?

ACORD Certificates of Insurance (COIs) are issued “as a matter of information only and confer no rights upon the holder.” By contrast, policy endorsements carry contractual effect and are more meaningful than the information shown in the “Description” or “Certificate Holder” boxes of an ACORD form.

To improve response times, reduce errors, and simplify administration, GVSU’s Evidence of Coverage is always available online and includes the policy endorsements most commonly required by contract, such as Additional Insured and Waiver of Subrogation.
