Laker Esports Center Is Now Open

Recreation & Wellness opened the Laker Esports Center (LEC) on December 1 for drop-in gaming for the GVSU community. The LEC is located on the lower level of the Kirkoff Center on the Allendale Campus (KC 050). Renovation of the space for the LEC began in the spring of 2021.

“The Laker Esports Center is a space where students can come and instantly start playing games with friends and fellow Lakers. Everything is provided to students, and the computers come pre-downloaded with a variety of games and applications for students to use,” said Chris Bilski, Esports Coordinator for Recreation & Wellness.

“It is an exciting day for our university, as we open the Laker Esports Center to our campus. It is an exceptional facility for gamers to engage, connect, and grow their community,” Mike Przydzial, Acting Director of Recreation & Wellness, said. “I would like to thank all of our campus partners involved in this project, and extend my appreciation to Mitch Eastlick and Chris Bilski for their efforts in planning and coordinating facility operations for this space. This is just the start of great things to come for Esports at GVSU!”

Participants can drop in during open hours and play the following games:

  • Hearthstone
  • League of Legends
  • Minecraft
  • Overwatch
  • Rainbow Six: Siege
  • Rocket League
  • Valorant

Currently, no reservations are being taken for stations. All stations are available during open hours on a first come, first served basis. Gamers are limited to two hours per session. Days and times for drop in gaming can be found on the RecWell website

“Esports at GVSU is an opportunity to engage and connect students through their passion for gaming and competition,” Bilski added. “The Laker Esports Center and RecWell programming around esports is a way to tap into something that there is a massive amount of passion and excitement for around campus.”

This new campus space was made possible because of a collaboration between Facilities Planning, IT, University Development & Recreation & Wellness.
