Description

Nestled in the Manistee National Forest the Manistee River Trail will serve as your introduction to backpacking/hiking in Manistee County.

This perfect weekend hike offers a varied and dynamic perspective of the natural beauty of lower Michigan. This overnight trip will follow the ~10 mile Manistee River Trail for an end-to-end hike. While well conditioned hikers can do the trail in a day, our trip plans to offer a more casual pace. This will allow time to focus on enjoying the natural beauty of the area, getting to know your fellow hiking companions and dialing-in your outdoor skills.

The Manistee River Trail follows the east shore of the Manistee River through rolling hills. The trail traverses past several wetlands and there are bridges crossing creeks. A waterfall near the northern end of the trail is very popular. The Manistee River Trail/North Country National Scenic Trail connector is also the site of the largest wooden suspension bridge in Lower Michigan.  Several observation sites along the trail provide hikers with vista views of the Manistee River and surrounding area.  There are several dispersed campsites along the trail.

You will not want to miss this opportunity to explore the natural wonders the Michigan forests have to offer.

Join us, as we adventure in our own backyard!
