Description
Please join us this Sunday, February 26th!
Timbuktu is a 2014 French-Mauritanian drama film directed by Abderrahmane Sissako. It was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or in the main competition section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.
The film looks at the brief occupation of Timbuktu, Mali by Ansar Dine. Parts of the film were influenced by a 2012 public stoning of an unmarried couple in Aguelhok. It was shot in Oualata, a town in south-east Mauritania.
This program is free and open to the public and begins at 2:00pm on Sunday, Febrary 26 in the UICA theater, with the short film You are Going to Hell (13 min.) followed by the feature film.
A panel discussion with a film scholar and history/cultural representative takes place after the film viewing, followed by a reception with complimentary food and beverages reflecting the regional cuisine of the film's origin.
