PCE Student Team Part of YouTube Series

Published July 6, 2026 by William Herbst

A Padnos College of Engineering student team is part of a YouTube series that is launching this summer.

On Thursday, July 9, the Cast in Steel series debuted on You Tube. The show follows university teams, including one from GVSU, as they recreate a historically inspired George Washington sword replica using modern engineering, steel casting, manufacturing, and testing.

The first season of the show is from a previous year's competition and episode 2, featuring the team from PCE, is set to premiere on July 16. The team, which is led by their advisor, Abishek Balsamy Kamaraj, has competed in multiple years of the competition, and hosted the 2026 event, which was recorded for a future season of the Cast In Steel series.

You can watch the full series, including the episode that includes The Axecutioners, here.
