NUR 101: New Nursing Major Seminar Series
Starting your journey as a Grand Valley nursing student is an exciting step, and we’re here to help you navigate what comes next. The NUR 101 Seminar Series, hosted by the Nursing Advising Team, is designed to help first year and transfer students better understand the path to nursing at GVSU and feel confident taking their next steps.
Through practical and timely topics, you’ll learn what you need to know and what you can start doing now to prepare for the nursing program. From understanding requirements, policies, and the competitive admission process to connecting with campus resources, building meaningful experiences, and developing skills beyond the classroom, each session provides information you can put into action.
Come get the facts, ask questions, connect with resources, and build a strong foundation for your journey toward nursing at Grand Valley.
When & Where
Join us for two NUR 101 sessions in Fall 2026. Both sessions will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Kirkhof Center, Room 2250.

The NUR 101 Seminar Series is designed for first year and transfer students interested in pursuing nursing at Grand Valley. How to Sign Up
Students are encouraged to register in advance for each session. Attend one session or both based on your interests and needs. Come ready to learn, ask questions, connect with campus resources, and leave with information you can put into action as you prepare for nursing.
NUR 101: Facts vs. Fiction

There’s a lot to know when pursuing nursing, and not everything you hear is accurate. With specific eligibility requirements, GPA expectations, policies, and application guidelines, understanding the nursing program early is an important part of planning your path.
This seminar is designed to clear up the confusion. We’ll break down the requirements and policies you need to know, address common nursing myths, and help you better understand what is expected as you work toward applying to the nursing program.

As you work toward applying to the nursing program, the experiences you pursue and the skills you develop can play an important role in your growth as a student, applicant, and future healthcare professional.
For this seminar, we’re partnering with the Career Center to help you identify practical ways to start preparing now. Explore opportunities to gain healthcare and other meaningful experiences, recognize and build transferable skills, strengthen your confidence in your major and career direction, and learn how to communicate your experiences through the nursing application and interview process.
