Add a Dependent

To add an F-2 Dependent to your SEVIS record, we need to collect several pieces of information from you. Please gather the required items and submit through this form. We will verify your information and, if everything is in order, process in SEVIS. Please note you will need to submit this form for each dependent you wish to add. Only spouses and minor children (under 21) can be added as F-2 dependents for an F-1 student.

Financial Verification will be required of the F-1 student, demonstrating sufficient funds to cover the estimated financial support needed for one year. For each dependent, the financial documents must demonstrate at least $5,200 per dependent older than 13 or at least $2,600 per dependent younger than 13. Current students will also need to demonstrate renewed Verification of Finances for their own cost of attendance.

Processing Time: all immigration requests are expected to take about 2 weeks (10 business days) to process.

Verification of Funding

F-1 students wishing to add a dependent to their SEVIS record need to demonstrate funding that covers at least:

the Cost of Attendance for one Academic Year AND at least
$5,200 per dependent older than 13, or
$2,600 per dependent younger than 13.
