Benefits of Participation

Learn about a new culture from an expert and share your own knowledge and experiences!

International students need a little help getting to know their way around campus and West Michigan while Faculty and Staff mentors could learn a thing or two from the students’ international perspectives.

Fit the Mitt is approved for PSS Development Credit (non-technical)!

Time Commitment

Mentors and Mentees meet for the first time at a kickoff event at the beginning of the semester. From there on out, they are encouraged to meet face-to-face at least once per month but are free to organize as many or as few meetups as work for them! Some pairs prefer weekly meetings on-campus while others get together for fun outings or occasions outside of campus. As participation in this program is not obligatory, we want you to make the most of your experience in whatever way works for you--so this is based on each pairs' commonalities and comfort level.

Pairings are done once per year at the beginning of the Fall semester. Mentors are able to sign up for a new mentee each year if they would like!
