STEM Loss of Employment

If you lost your current STEM OPT employment and are currently unemployed, please submit this form so we can update your immigration record. You can be unemployed while on STEM OPT for a maximum of 150 days. This includes the 90 days of unemployment permitted during your first year of OPT.

If you are changing STEM Employers, please use the STEM Change of Employer form.

Processing Time: all immigration requests are expected to take about 1 week (5 business days) to process.

I-983 Final Evaluation

It is recommended to collect a final evaluation anytime you are ending STEM employment to keep the most complete records possible. If possible, work with your employer to obtain the final evaluation on Page 5 of your I-983.

If you do not have the final evaluation completed at this time, but plan to get it in the future, please resubmit a STEM Loss of Employment form after obtaining the evaluation.
