Is the U.S. imperial or internationalist? A recent raft of books asserts that we are imperial. But if that is true, are we an empire of good intentions… or and empire of reckless might? Argument roils over the degree to which the projection of our military, diplomatic, commercial, and cultural powers constitutes a new kind of empire. Or in the end, are we like the others?
