Description
On September 2, 1945, World War II finally ended. That was the day the Proclamation Signing of the Declaration aboard the U.S. Navy battleship, the USS Missouri, officially ended the world's worst war. As we approach the 75th anniversary of that historic day, it remains vital to honor those who served. The Hauenstein Center is proud to join the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, Gerald R. Ford Library and Museum, and partners in a two-day celebration of the Greatest Generation. This two-day event features WWII veterans’ portraits, Memoriam bell ringing, downtown flyover (B-17, B-25 & C-47), as well as two world-class speakers. Jim DeFelice, co-author of American Sniper and Every Man a Hero: A Memoir of D-Day, will give an online presentation at 6:30 PM on September 1. We end our celebration on September 2 with a 6 PM flyover above the Grand River in downtown Grand Rapids, following which Chris Wallace, journalist and host of Fox News Sunday, will give an online presentation about his recently published book, Countdown 1945: The Extraordinary Story of the Atomic Bomb and the 116 Days That Changed the World, at 7 PM.
The online presentations with Jim DeFelice and Chris Wallace will be available live on The Gerald R. Ford Foundation Facebook page.

We are as eager as all of you are to resume the Hauenstein
Center’s thought-provoking in person events. Though in these
tumultuous times, in order to comply with the Governor’s executive
orders, the CDC recommended guidelines, and Grand Valley’s current
policies, our fall lineup will be offered digitally. The very first
opportunity we have to go back to in person events, we will do so, so
stay tuned!
