Library exhibit celebrates history of the Young Lords
A new exhibit at Grand Valley honors the 50th anniversary of the Young Lords organization - a street gang that transformed into a political human rights movement in 1968 when their founder José Jiménez came to the realization that the group was capable of bringing about positive social change. "Puerto Rico in My Heart: 50 Years of Young Lords" will be on display in the Mary Idema Pew Library through November 14.

Ott Lecture to focus on synthetic organic chemistry's use in creating new medicines
The development of new techniques in synthetic organic chemistry has been and will continue to be vital in the creation of new medicines and other materials. Stephen Buchwald, the Camille Dreyfus Professor of Chemistry and associate head of the Department of Chemistry at MIT, will describe the efforts made by his team, The Buchwald Research Group, to develop these new methods during the Arnold C. Ott Lectureship in Chemistry on October 4.

Alumni to share Laker Effect stories, professional experiences during multiple presentations
A mathematician who works for Disney and the investigative reporter who broke the Larry Nassar sex abuse story will be among 10 alumni from Grand Valley's College of Liberal Arts of Sciences who will return to campus to speak about their professional experiences. The CLAS Distinguished Alumni-in-Residence will participate in presentations, lectures, Q&A sessions and meet-and-greet opportunities on the Allendale Campus October 1-5.
