Public Health Graduate Laker Presents at the American Public Health Association Annual Conference

Ally Goerge had the opportunity to present her research on breast cancer survivorship of African American individuals at the American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Conference in Boston, Massachusetts.

The theme for this conference was: APHA 2022 – 150 Years of Creating the Healthiest Nation: Leading the Path Toward Equity.

Ally’s study is titled “Lifestyle and comorbidity and upper extremity disability among long-term African American breast cancer survivors.” She utilized data from the African American Breast Cancer Survivorship Long-Term (AABL) Study for the data analysis. The data span three states -- South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia -- in collaboration with Meharry Medical College, looking at the physical and mental health conditions in survivorship. Ally has researched this topic with the mentorship of Dr. Sarah Nechuta from the College of Health Professions.

This inspiring Laker is in her second year of the Master of Public Health program, with an emphasis on epidemiology.
