Biology Graduate Program Alumna Receives Award for Outstanding Publication

Kimberly Oldenborg, an alumna of the biology graduate program at GVSU, received the Graduate Dean's Citation Award for Outstanding Publication this past fall. Her thesis, an article she co-authored with Dr. Alan Steinman of the Annis Water Resources Institute, was published in the Science of the Total Environment journal with high reviewer acclaim. Kimberly studied the impacts of dredging phosphorus laden sediments from a former celery farm which utilized phosphorous fertilizing within the Muskegon Lake Area of Concern. The restoration project was funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative through a partnership with the Great Lakes Commission. Building upon her success, Kimberly has accepted a position with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as the Northeast Lakeshore Total Maximum Daily Load Project Coordinator. Congratulations to Kimberly on all her successes!
